Terms of Use
Last updated: 1 November 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and ShakTalk ("we", "us") for your use of the ShakTalk app and website ("ShakTalk"). By creating an account or using ShakTalk, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. Who can use ShakTalk
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. You are responsible for your account, for keeping your sign-in secure, and for all activity under it.
2. The service
ShakTalk lets two people talk by voice while artificial intelligence translates the conversation between their languages, with subtitles and a conversation history. Features, languages and limits may change as we improve the service.
3. AI translation: no guarantee of accuracy
Translations, voices and subtitles are generated automatically by artificial intelligence. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed or may change the meaning of what was said. You must check important details, such as prices, quantities, dates, addresses, and medical, legal or financial information, before acting on them.
Not a record or proof. A translation or transcript is not an exact, certified or verified record of what anyone said. You must not use ShakTalk translations or transcripts as evidence or proof of another person's words, statements, identity, intentions, consent or agreement, including to form, confirm or change a contract. Any agreement made during a call should be confirmed in writing in a language both parties understand.
Do not rely on ShakTalk as your only means of communication in emergencies, or where a mistake could cause injury, loss or legal consequences. ShakTalk is not a replacement for a certified human interpreter where one is legally required or where accuracy is critical. We are not responsible for decisions you make or actions you take based on a translation.
3A. The other person in your call
You are responsible for telling the people you call that the conversation is translated by AI and that a text transcript is saved, and for getting their consent where the law requires it. Do not use ShakTalk to call anyone who has not agreed to take part.
3B. Local laws and availability of internet calling
Internet voice calling is restricted or controlled in some countries, and in some places it is allowed only on certain networks or internet providers. ShakTalk may therefore not work, or may work only partly, depending on your country and network. You are responsible for making sure that your use of ShakTalk is lawful where you are, including any rules on internet calling, recording and data. You may not use ShakTalk where it is prohibited, or if you are subject to sanctions or located in a country or region under comprehensive sanctions.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use ShakTalk to:
- break any law, or harass, threaten, defraud or impersonate anyone;
- record or translate anyone who has not agreed to take part in the call;
- send unlawful, abusive or infringing content;
- interfere with, reverse-engineer, overload or try to gain unauthorised access to the service.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
5. Plans and payments
Some features or usage levels may require a paid plan. Prices are shown in the app before you buy. Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are billed by them, renew automatically unless cancelled in your store account settings, and are subject to their refund policies.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you say and the transcripts of your calls. You give us permission to process this content only as needed to provide and improve the service, as described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Availability
We work to keep ShakTalk available, but it depends on internet connections and third-party providers, so we cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free service. ShakTalk may not be available in every country, and some networks restrict internet calls.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShakTalk is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, availability and non-infringement. We do not warrant that translations will be accurate or complete, or that the service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.
8A. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our providers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, business or goodwill, or for any loss caused by translation errors, misunderstandings, call quality, network restrictions or service interruptions. Our total liability to you for all claims relating to ShakTalk is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and USD 50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
8B. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ShakTalk and its officers, employees and providers from claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of ShakTalk, your breach of these terms, your violation of any law, or your reliance on a translation, except to the extent caused by our own wrongdoing.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using ShakTalk and delete your account at any time: see Delete your account. We may end or suspend access if you break these terms or if we stop offering the service, with notice where reasonable.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use ShakTalk after a change means you accept the new terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes are subject to the courts there, unless the law of your country requires otherwise.
12. Your acceptance
You accept these terms when you tick the agreement box at sign-up or in the app. We keep a record of the version you accepted and when. If we change these terms in a way that needs your agreement again, the app will ask you before you continue.
13. General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about ShakTalk. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to a successor.
